Robert 'Bob' Perry

 Bob has been carving since the early 1980s. His first carving was a Chickadee in an adult education carving class at the local high school. By the end of this class he was hooked and registered for the next class. After these first classes, he discovered wood spirits and caricatures and moved away from birds but still occasionally carves them.

His wide range of carving skills is derived from classes with talented Maine instructors like, Robert Grover (first instructor) and his wife Jane, Jim Wade, Gordon Harde, Kathy Webster, Karen Knowles, Ed Beach, Ken Grover, Dave Peatfield, Richard Spinney and Chuck Perry. World class professional carving instructor/authors, Frank Russell (Power Carving Editor for Woodcarving Illustrated), Peter Benson (President British Woodcarvers Association), Pete LeClair, Dave Sabol, Chris Howard, Justin Gordon, Marcia Berkall, Carol Jean Boyd, Wayne Smith and Clair Rouch.

A long time resident of Buckfield, his retirement home and carving shop are in Sumner, Maine. Knob Hill Wood Carving at Bog Haven is now home base.

He is a member and Past President of Maine Woodcarvers Association. In 1992, he organized the Streaked Mountain Woodcarvers Club. He is a member of New England Woodcarvers Association, Mystic Wood Carvers Association, and National Woodcarvers Association. He regularly attends the annual New England Woodcarvers Retreat at the University of Rhode Island.

He has taught woodcarving classes at S.A.D. 39 Adult Education in Buckfield, ME and S.A.D. 52 Adult Education in Turner ME., and has conducted Carving Seminars for local clubs and carving groups. He has served as Judge for the Maine Woodcarvers Down East Wood Carving and Wildlife Art Show, New England Woodcarvers - Spirit of  Wood Show and Competition, and Top Of Maine Wood Carvers Show and Competition.
Bob uses the traditional knives and gouges, as well as power to create his Wood Spirits, Caricatures, Whimsical Houses, Signs, etc.
