Matthew Burke

started carving in his father’s woodworking shop when he was 10 years old. He has been carving off and on for the past 25 years. While mostly self taught, he learned a lot about wood burning from fellow Maine carver, Ed Beach. Matthew specializes in realistic songbirds but his work includes some mammals and fish in both realistic and stylized finishes.
Matthew recently purchased the land surveying company he has worked at for the last 11 years. Riverside Survey is housed in the same building where he started carving. Recent renovations have allowed for a carving studio to be added to the early 1800's building sitting on the bank of the Crooked River.
